Ruby Red

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

5/5 Stars

Since I’m a blabber mouth I’m copying the description of the book from goodreads because it has just the right amount of informations .. So here you go “Sixteen-year-old Gwen lives with her extended – and rather eccentric – family in an exclusive London neighborhood. In spite of her ancestors’ peculiar history, she’s had a relatively normal life so far. The time-traveling gene that runs like a secret thread through the female half of the family is supposed to have skipped over Gwen, so she hasn’t been introduced to “the mysteries,” and can spend her time hanging out with her best friend, Lesly. It comes as an unwelcome surprise when she starts taking sudden, uncontrolled leaps into the past.

She’s totally unprepared for time travel, not to mention all that comes with it: fancy clothes, archaic manners, a mysterious secret society, and Gideon, her time-traveling counterpart. He’s obnoxious, a know-it-all, and possibly the best-looking guy she’s seen in any centrury . . ” So our main heroine Gwen has a very normal life although she knows that a “time traveling” gene is in her family but other than that she’s absolutely ordinary until she suddenly leaps into a different era and from there things go a little bit crazy ✨ the reason why I loved this book so much is because YA novels changed a lot in the past couple of years, the stories are more complicated and the characters are so complex .. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing but sometimes you just miss the old simple stories and this series delivers that. Ruby Red is a fun, Adventurous book that talks about time travel and it lays out the groundwork so well for a first book. I like that the main character doesn’t know much so we are learning as she’s learning and we are discovering new things together. The characters are amazing, we have fun ones and we have dark mysterious characters but overall I loved the way that the characters were described and I loved the details in this book. Now shall we talk about my new fictional male crush?
