Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes ♠️

Synopsis from Goodreads: The first novel in Colleen Oakes’s epic, imaginative series tells the origin of one of the most infamous villains—the Queen of Hearts.
This is not the story of the Wonderland we know. Alice has not fallen down a rabbit hole. This is a Wonderland where beneath each smile lies a secret, each tart comes with a demand, and only prisoners tell the truth.

Dinah is the princess who will one day reign over Wonderland. She has not yet seen the dark depths of her kingdom; she longs only for her father’s approval and a future with the boy she loves. But when a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is launched into Wonderland’s dangerous political game. Dinah must stay one step ahead of her cunning enemies or she’ll lose not just the crown but her head.

Queen of Hearts was an amazing book that I absolutely loved ♥️ The setting of this book is incomparable. The way the author built up the world and the characters is breathtaking. The characters in this book are far from perfect, most of them are complex and twisted and I can’t deny that I loved that. For the author to be able to create a different version of Alice in The Wonderland yet just as good and bewitching as Alice in The Wonderland is makes me question the definition of creativity.

I noticed when I visited Goodreads that many people didn’t enjoy the book as much as I did and that made doubt myself for a couple of seconds but then I realized that the difference between me and them is that I’m reading this book as a reader not a critic. Was this book perfect? No but most of the best selling, successful books are not perfect. Did I enjoy reading this? Absolutely with all of my heart. There wasn’t a single page in this book that I felt like it was boring and I truly understood the main character’s feelings.

So apparently this book and the second book were released back in 2014 but they were released by a different a publishing company and if you know me you probably that I’m the most impatient person in this world so I was just about to order my copy when I realized that it costs $500. I’m impatient but not mad 😂💔

So this is the fifth and final (I believe) book in The Selection Series which is one of my favorite series ever. It’s a really cute and exciting series with a unique idea that I totally adored 💜 However not everybody is in love with this series because they feel like it’s a bit teenish and too cute for their own taste so like I always say check out the sample before getting the book.

DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST THREE BOOKS OF THE SELECTION ⚠️ The Heir and The Crown are my least favorite books in The Selection series and I think that it’s because I’m so in love with America and Maxon’s love story and I’m not ready to move on and I just feel like their love story is incomparable. The Heir and The Crown are actually good books but I think that these two books are unnecessary because it’s true that you get to learn more about Maxon and America and how they treat their children but you also learn about how difficult their and their friends life became and that’s…sad because I really love a perfect happy ending that leave your mind at peace and that’s exactly how I felt about the ending of The One but not The Crown.

Princess Eadlyn’s character developed in The Crown and she became a stronger, fiercer and smarter character but I was still expecting more tbh because last year everybody was talking about how in The Crown Eadlyn’s character is going to change dramatically. I really like who Eadlyn choose and I’ve to admit that at the beginning of the book I forgot who I was rooting for and who’s who from the suitors but that’s simply because I’m too lazy to reread The Heir anyway I was able to catch up easily after a couple of pages. I actually knew she was going to end up with this character .. Call it a helpless romantic instinct 🙊 I’m pretty pleased with how everything ended.

Synopsis from Goodreads:”A ridiculously cute, formerly-famous new guy dropping into your life? It’s practically every girl’s dream.

But not Jules McCallister-Morgan’s.

I realize that on paper I look like your standard type-A, neurotic, overachiever. And maybe I am. But I didn’t get to be the editor of my school’s long-revered newspaper by just showing up*. I have one main goal for my senior year-early acceptance into my first choice Ivy League college-and I will not be deterred by best friends, moms who think I could stand to “live a little,” or boys.

At least, that was the plan before I knew about Alex Powell**.

And before Alex Powell betrayed me***.

I know what you’re thinking: Calm down, Jules. But you don’t understand. This stuff matters. This is my life. And I’m not going down without a fight.

—-

* Okay, I sort of did. But it’s a sore subject.

** I mean, I guess everyone knows about Alex Powell? Two years ago, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about viral video boy band sensation Chaos 4 All. Two years ago, Alex Powell was famous.

***Some people think I’m overreacting. But this. Means. War.

Filled with romance, rivalry, and passive-aggressive dog walking, Amy Spalding delivers a hilariously relatable high school story that’s sure to have you falling for The New Guy.”

This book is fun and entertaining ✨ However I was expecting the story to be more about the whole boy band drama with Alex being the “villain” in the story but it actually wasn’t. It was still fun although I kinda dislike the main character Jules because she can a bit obnoxious but as I read more about her I realize that she’s 17 years old and she’s naïve and she’s supposed to be that way so I can’t really hold that against her. It’s a fun, light and quirky book that I finished in a day.

Synopsis from Goodreads:  “Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war. She lacks the powers of her fellow Ruined. Worst of all, she witnessed her parents’ brutal murders and watched helplessly as her sister, Olivia, was kidnapped.

But because Em has nothing, she has nothing to lose. Driven by a blind desire for revenge, Em sets off on a dangerous journey to the enemy kingdom of Lera. Somewhere within Lera’s borders, Em hopes to find Olivia. But in order to find her, Em must infiltrate the royal family.

In a brilliant, elaborate plan of deception and murder, Em marries Prince Casimir, next in line to take Lera’s throne. If anyone in Lera discovers Em is not Casimir’s true betrothed, Em will be executed on the spot. But it’s the only way to salvage Em’s kingdom and what is left of her family.

Em is determined to succeed, but the closer she gets to the prince, the more she questions her mission. Em’s rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life—and her family—on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.”

Wow, right? This book caught me off guard. I think the reason for that is because it was recently released so the amount of people who has read it is not that big so I got into this book without reading anything about it and honestly I wasn’t expecting anything at all especially for it to be one of the best books that I’ve read this year.

It’s a YA fantasy book but it’s totally different from all the YA fantasy books that I’ve read. In this book there’s no villain. There are just two sides that caused damage to each other, so you’re living in a constant conflict over which side to pick and I really like that because I’m a bit sick of the “Murderous soulless king who slaughtered everyone”.

The story building is fantastic and the characters are amazing. Everything in this book is explained well in an entertaining gripping way. I seriously couldn’t put this book down and I didn’t feel bored at all while reading this. There’s romance in it which is a bonus for me! The romance in it was slowly building up which somehow made it stronger and more realistic. It wasn’t cheesy or lame at all. The ending of the book though 😱 I NEED THE SECOND BOOK.

Summer Books Recommendations ☀

Many people ask me to recommend books for them and to be honest that freaks me out because I KNOW that each one of us has a different taste in books and the fact that you might not like the book i recommended to you is scary. However, I won’t let that stop me from raving about my favorite summer books and in the end you can always pick whatever suits your taste. YOU SHOULD STILL DOWNLOAD/READ A SAMPLE BEFORE PURCHASING ANY BOOK just to see if it’s something worth buying.

Summer days are long and hot so fun, fast paced and cute books are the best type of books to take with you to the beach, swimming pool or even if you’re staying at home 👙🌊

🐠 SUMMER SERIES 🐠

IMG_2926

  • The Summer I Turned Pretty series by jenny Han is a page turner that’s filled with emotions and adorableness. I read this series a very long while ago and then i reread it a year ago and i still felt the same way about it and i couldn’t put it down even though i already knew what’s going to happen.
  • Airhead series by Meg Cabot so this is not particularly a summerish series but it’s fun and creative. If you have read any of Meg Cabot books then you must definitely want to read this. Meg Cabot books are funny, cute and very easy to read. If you’re new to reading and you want something that will help you enjoy reading more then check this out.
  • Whispering Pines series by Jen Calonita consist of two books that are not really connected, like it wouldn’t matter that much if you didn’t read Sleepaway Girls to read Summer State of Mind but the are some characters that shows up in both books and I’m sure if you start one of them then you want to read the other but do start with Sleepaway Girls. These books are really fun and they’re about camping and meeting new people. It’s a Middle Grade/Young Adult series so it’s another easy read that’s totally cute.
  • Belles series which is also by Jen Calonita has the rags to riches Cinderella kind of story and it’s very interesting especially if you like stories like that and it’s all about the high-school drama and trying to fit in but it’s very delightful and it’s filled with cute moments. It also reminds me of Korean Tv drama so if you like Korean Tv dramas then check this out!
  • Broken Hearts & Revenge series by Katie Finn (pen name for Morgan Matson) is the ultimate summer series and it’s all about revenge. There’s a lot of high-school/backstabbing drama that will have you sitting at the edge of your seat and trust me when i say you will not be able to put this series down.

🐚 SUMMER STAND-ALONE 🐚

IMG_2925.JPG

  • Rules of Summer by Joanna Philbin is actually a series but i only read the first book and i was satisfied with how everything ended so i didn’t feel any need to read the second book. This book is about two girls with a very different lifestyle that go through a lot but at a certain point their lives collide and you get to experience both lifestyles and that’s really interesting.
  • The DUFF by Kody Keplinger is so good! it’s really fun and it’s really hard to put down because once you start it you want to finish it. It’s not exactly a summery book but i did read it in summer and that’s why i felt the need to add it to this pile.
  • Morgan Matson is an amazing author and Since You’ve Been Gone is one of the best books that i have read by her. Don’t be fooled by the title because i thought that it was going to be one of those books that will get me depressed but it was absolutely fun. It’s all about breaking out of your shell and trying out new and different things. It’s light but also deep… it’s perfectly balanced and It will make you laugh, tear up and smile.
  • One Of The Guys by Lisa Aldin is totally underrated. So it’s about a tomboy girl who does something extremely stupid and get her self in an all girls school, having to wear a skirt and act like lady was pretty tough for her but she ends up starting this “new” business where she hire her male best friends as dates to her fellow female classmates and it’s absolutely fun until she realizes that the most sought-after guy that she’s hiring is the one that she might actually be in love with. It’s one of those fun summer books that you finish in one sitting and yeah it’s a bit cliché and cheesy but in the most delightful way.
  • Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg will turn you into a puddle, that’s how cute this book is. It’s all about friendship and love. It’s an easy, light and fun book to read when you’re in a reading slump or you simply want a fun, fast-paced book to read after finishing off a huge fantasy/sci-fi book.
  • Kasie West is probably the queen of Contemporary books because i absolutely loved all of her contemporary books and I’m dying to get the one she’s releasing soon! So you have got On the fence, The Distance Between Us and The Fill-in Boyfriend each one of them has a different story and different characters. However, they’re all set in the same world and some of the side characters show up in more than one book.
  • My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick is a beautiful summery book that talks about friendship, love and being honest. The fictional male character is very swoon worthy and I’m sure you will have a major crush on him. The story is beautiful and touching and there are many cute and funny moments that you will adore.
  • The Siren by Kiera Cass is a unique story that talks about the ocean and the sirens. It’s worth reading especially if you love new, different and unique stories. It’s not a fun, light book because you see people struggle in this book but there are many cute moments and it’s a gripping story that you won’t forget easily.
  • I read Roomies by Lindy Zart last year in summer and boy was i obsessed! it was totally adorable and funny. If you love love-triangles then this book is for you. This book will turn you heart into mush from all the cute moments that are in it.

Talking about all of those books make me feel a bit nostalgic and i honestly think that i need to reread many of those books! i hope that you find this post useful and you enjoy my recommendations

Synopsis from Goodreads: “For as long as Alice can remember, she has dreamed of Max. Together, they have traveled the world and fallen deliriously, hopelessly in love. Max is the boy of her dreams—and only her dreams. Because he doesn’t exist.

But when Alice walks into class on her first day at a new school, there he is. Real Max is nothing like Dream Max. He’s stubborn and complicated. And he has a whole life Alice isn’t a part of. Getting to know each other in reality isn’t as perfect as Alice always hoped.

Alarmingly, when their dreams start to bleed into their waking hours, the pair realize that they might have to put an end to a lifetime of dreaming about each other. But when you fall in love in your dreams, can reality ever be enough?

This book was absolutely adorable. I love the idea of the book because it’s so creative and fun 💖 Alice and Max both have flaws and that just makes the story seem more realistic. Like I said the characters were really good and I didn’t struggle at all while reading this book although I was in a reading slump and usually when I’m in a reading slump and I start book it takes me longer than usual to finish it but this book was really cute and fun so I couldn’t put down and it got me out of my reading slump 🎉 I totally recommend picking this book up if you want something new, cute and fun to read

So the other day after putting this book down because I was going to sleep I kept on thinking about the concept of this book and then I fell asleep and had the weirdest dream where a Japanese wedding was held in our house 😂 I kept on telling them that they got the wrong address but nobody listened to me and when a Japanese wedding is being held in your house you don’t kick them out, you simply enjoy it.

As the rulers of each kingdom grapple for power, the lives of their subjects are brutally transformed… and four key players, royals and rebels alike, find their fates forever intertwined. Cleo, Jonas, Lucia, and Magnus are caught in a dizzying world of treacherous betrayals, shocking murders, secret alliances, and even unforeseen love.

The only outcome that’s certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

It’s the eve of war…. Choose your side.”

If you’re a fan of game of thrones, I’m pretty sure you’ll love this series and even if you’re not a fan you will still enjoy it just as much! The characters in this series are simply amazing. There are some major character developments and ugh everything about this book is fantastic.

This story is being told from different characters so you get to know the different perspectives. I find stories that are told by different characters usually confuse me, However in this book it wasn’t confusing at all in fact it made the whole story even more enjoyable. I really really really loved reading this book and I’m already dreading the moment that I’ll finish all 4 books and then having to wait for upcoming ones
